Join Formed:An Artist Collective in celebrating local artist Gene Wineland for First Friday Art Walk on September 2, 2022 at 6-9 p.m. With live music by Harley’s Muse!
Gene has been an artist his whole life, drawing his first mural on the living room wall at four years old. He has worked in the most mediums including Printmaking, Painting, Pastels, Photography, and most recently Sculpture. He has painted murals in two continents. His work has been included in many individual and group exhibits over fifty years as a working artist and his work is in private collections from New York to California. He has worked as a sign painter, a graphic artist and a college art professor for thirty-five years including teaching in Australia. He was a starving artist living the bohemian lifestyle traveling across the mid-west doing art fairs in the ’70s and working with twenty-six galleries in eight states.
Having been on both sides of the classroom, Gene has always been a student of life with a quest for learning, seeing with a fresh eye, tasting for the first time, experiencing the new and enjoying the comfort of the familiar. He believes that an artist has a an innate desire to create and they must nourish that gift. He says that he would be lost without his studio, it is his sanctuary and daily retreat. His work is sometime beautiful and pleasurable and but can also be confronting and traumatic so take the time to look beyond the surface into your own personal experiences and his work speak to you.
His teaching experience includes Ft. Hays State University, Pratt Community College, Wichita State University, Johnson County Community College, and Grace Lutheran College in Australia.
