Discover the beauty of the natural world through drawing in this 4-week drawing course geared towards beginner-level adults with some prior drawing experience. Led by artist Ashley Laren, this class will go through drawing fundamentals with graphite, while also teaching techniques on how to capture natural textures, landforms, and developing a unique landscape composition. Participants will gain hands-on practice through guided instruction to help unlock their creative potential in drawing the natural world.

 

Week 1: Drawing Fundamentals

• Learn the essentials of working with graphite and shading techniques to create realistic light and shadow.
• Practice observing and drawing still-life compositions featuring plants and natural materials.
• Explore concepts of creating a balanced and engaging composition through organization of visual elements.

Week 2: Drawing Textures in Nature

• Study techniques to draw natural textures such as bark, rocks, grass, and water.
• Practice depicting textures from different points of view.

Week 3: Drawing Landforms

• Learn techniques to draw a variety of landforms.
• Focus on integrating perspective and scale to create depth in your compositions.

Week 4: Composition and Refinement

• Discover how to put together your own landscape composition by learning the principles of design.
• Create a final piece that incorporates the skills and concepts learned throughout the course.
