Join artist and instructor Ashley Laren for a fun and engaging 4-week drawing course designed for kids aged 8–12. This class introduces foundational drawing techniques using graphite, focusing on shapes, shading, texture, and perspective. Each session includes a warm-up, lesson, and hands-on activity to encourage creativity and skill-building. Perfect for young artists looking to explore their imaginations and develop confidence in their drawing abilities!

Week One: 

• Learn to combine shapes to draw simple and complex objects.
• Practice drawing what you see instead of what you think you see through contour drawing exercises.
• Work together to create a still-life composition to draw using the skills gained in the first part of the class.

Week Two: 

• Introduce light and shadow using basic shading techniques.
• Learn how to draw different textures to make drawings look more realistic.
• Draw objects using techniques of shading and line-making to create form and texture.

Week Three: 

• Learn how to draw basic 3-D forms.
• Introduce one-point perspective to create dimensionality in a drawing.
• Experiment with creating a composition using a foreground, middle ground, and background.

Week Four: 

• Review elements of shape, form, line, texture, and space.
• Discuss how to plan out a drawing using the elements of art.
• Students will work on a final project using their imagination in combination with the elements of art to draw a unique composition of their own.
