Moxie Cinema, Springfield’s non-profit independent movie theater opened September 27, 2005. Since its inception the boutique theater has shown films which wouldn’t otherwise be available on the big screen in our region. In the last 10 years, Moxie has screened nearly 240,000 films. In 2014, according to its website, 92-percent of the films shown would have never been screened in the Ozarks.
Executive director Mike Stevens:
Everything we play here is usually critically acclaimed; something that there’s a general critical consensus (that) ‘this is a good movie artistically.’ Increasingly we’re able to take risks on smaller titles, but we feel it’s important to play those kind of movies.
Moxie Cinema (305 S Campbell) is open seven days a week, 365 days a year with a wide variety of films, documentaries, occasional cult classics and free screenings for children.
